user boot-time init files in evervolv

I'm running evervolv (latest nightly, 2017.03.29 right now, I think) on an HP Touchpad. I want to start sshd at boot. I've configured the
/data/ssh/sshd_config file, and manually starting with ssh-start starts the service just fine.

But the old CM method of putting the startup script in /data/local/userinit.d doesn't work in evervolv, apparently. I've looked around and can't find a location that survives a reboot that gets acted upon by the init process to start user-defined init procedures.

Is there such a directory in evervolv that I can use for this purpose, or is there a preferred alternative approach?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.
