Using a Root File Explorer go to /vendor/etc/audio_effects.conf and rename that file to /vendor/etc/audio_effects.conf.bak , then reboot Device.

I noticed this on my Pixel XL as well. I'm under the assumption that as long as status was "Normal" instead of "Abnormal", things were good. You'll notice, that if you start playing music and check the Driver status again that Processing will change to "YES". "NO" simply means that it's not processing sound at that current moment.
